Hi Team,

Good day.

We received a query from customer looking for IC product that can meet they're requirements. For me to not miss any
information, I will copy the quuery below.

"I need to design single phase 180VDC (2kW) PMDC motor speed control driver. It should capable to power from 230VAC 50Hz power source. Do you have any IC for that?"

Thank you and looking forward for your kind response.

Regards,
Maynard

  • Maynard, hello and good afternoon.  Your inquiry has been received and forwarded to our Industrial Systems Motor Drive team for review and response.  As it is Friday evening in Freising, please give the owning design team until Monday, Tuesday at the latest, to respond.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi John,

    Good day,

    Any update regarding this query?

Thank you and looking forward for your kind response.

  • Hello Maynard,

Thank you for checking with us. I assume you refer to a single-phase brushed PMDC motor and not a single-phase brushless DC motor?

We don’t have an integrated solution for >60V brushed DC motors and I’ll list below what we have.

For brushed DC motors we have integrated solutions: https://www.ti.com/motor-drivers/brushed-dc-bdc-drivers/products.html, but only up to 60VDC and a MCU based solution 75V/10A Protected Full-Bridge Power Stage Reference Design for Brushed DC Drives: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-00365. I understand this is not what you are looking for.

For higher DC-link voltages up to e.g. 320VDC (rectified AC mains) and rated power of 2kW (I assume the rated current is in the range of 10A) we don’t have a reference design.

Therefore we can only offer subsystem options like hardware and a reference to software examples.

What I can point you to is the TIDA-00778: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-00778, which is a 320VDC 3-phase power stage with non-isolated half-bridge gate drivers (UCC22714) and low-side shunt-based current sensing (INA303). When we remove one half-bridge and only use a single DC-link shunt we get a 320VDC-link capable full-bridge and we’d operated the motor in bridge mode, for bi-directional current control. In that case the current and speed control would run on an MCU like MSP430 or C2000. Example code for brushless DC motor control can be found for example with H-Bridge brushed and stepper motor control solution: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDM-THREEPHASE-BSDC. This design is based on a C2000 MCU and a 52V integrated dual full bridge (DRV8412).

What such a non-integrated approach be an option for you?

    Thanks.
