It includes the step by step EVM setup, but, not a diagram.

May I ask is there a next generation of DRV8412 with PH-EN control method not PWM control method?

The latest PH-EN devices are DRV84xx family. Would you check DRV8424R or DRV8434E to see if it can meeting your requirement? BTW, the DRV8424E/34E full scale current is 2.5A.
