Hi sir,

A customer is looking for a single phase BLDC motor driver IC。
Voltate: 24V, Max current: 1.5A, Power: 1.5W (max), RPM: 500-5000rpm.
Kindly suggest a suitable driver IC.

he is having a 24V voltage regulator circuit. Input voltage for that is 36V.
Motor requires input voltage of 24V.

other feature requirement are below.
PWM control, Integrated MOSFET, Integrated current sense amplifier, motor braking etc.

Thank u for your valuable suggestion in advance.

Regards,

  • Hello Frank,

We don't have any devices right now that were designed to drive a single phase BLDC motor at this time.

We would have recommended the DRV8323, but it does not have integrated FET, motor braking, or 1x PWM control (you can control the gates of whatever H bridge that is used) but algorithm for those gates must be developed. In addition, there's some current sense amplifiers and gate drive circuitry and other extra systems that are dependent on 3 phase, that you're paying for.

As a result, I encourage you to take a look at DRV8323 but I'll ultimately recommend you look elsewhere.

    Best,

    -Cole

  • Hi Cole,

Thanks for your suggestion on the driver IC.
The P/N DRV8323 is a three phase Gate driver IC which I don't think will be suitable for our application.
Could you suggest a single phase BLDC motor driver with at least PWM speed control ?

Or suggest an IC similar to "DRV8839" with >24V input voltage and >1.5A current.

    Regards,

  • Hello Frank,

You're exactly right, we don't have anything specifically designed for 1 phase BLDC as we have designed most for 3 phase BLDC.

Let me loop in some of the other motor driver folks and see if they can recommend something.

    Best,

    -Cole

  • Hi Frank,

Take a look at this reference design: TIDA-00875. You should be able to accomplish a very simple single phase design using an H-Bridge driver with a PH/EN interface and an external hall sensor (i.e. DRV5013). The DRV8876 or DRV8801 should work as drivers.

    Thanks,

    Matt
