DRV8350: Unused pin of DRV8350

Part Number: DRV8350

Hi I am using DRV8350H, 32 pin IC. I am using this for PMDC application where phase A and B is used. Phase C is not used. So Can I leave unused pin INLC, INHC, GHC, GLC, SHC & SLC pin floating?

  • Hello, and thanks for your question.

You can leave INLC and INHC floating, since these pins have internal pulldowns to ground. You can also leave the GHC and GLC outputs floating.

SLC should be tied to ground, otherwise it may float and violate the abs max rating of the pin.

We recommend placing a 1k resistor from SHC to ground, just in case of any coupling.

Make sure that you are always commanding Hi-Z on phase C, and never commanding the high-side or low-side ON, otherwise you can cause a fault.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

Currently in our design INLC, INHC, GHC, GLC, SHC & SLC are floating. Whenever we are giving enable command immediately fault LED is glowing. Is it because of SLC not tied to ground? and Also SHC is floating?

There is no such recommendation given in datasheet.

  • Hi,

Yes, I think that SLC not being tied to ground may be causing issues.

Normally SHC floating does not cause issues unless you are unintentionally commanding the high-side or low-side of phase C ON.

    Thanks,

    Matt
