DRV8876: Current spike at VM fuse

Part Number: DRV8876

Hello team,

My customer using DRV8876 has observed current spike at VM=24V fuse.

Please find the internal link here for schematic and waveform. (Please connect to VPN for download)

Could you please let me know the possible cause of the current spike?

Also, the similar spiky voltage is observed at IPROPI. Do you think this is related to the current spike?

Regards,

Itoh

  • Hi Itoh,

Please read this FAQ for information on sources of current/voltage spikes in a motor system and methods to mitigate it.

Looking at the current waveforms, I can see some "ringing" noise or LC oscillations is happening. Ringing noise can be caused by large parasitic inductances/capacitances in PCB as explained in the FAQ. Since the IPROPI directly monitors the current of the load, it is expected to see similar spikes.

I hope that answers your question.
