DRV8704: Work temperature

Hi,

I need a clarification about the work temperature of the DRV8704DCPR (Dual H-BridgePWM Gate Driver) :

The datasheet reports:

1) Operating ambient temperature range:        -40°C < Ta < +85°C

2) Operating virtual junction temperature:         -40°C < Tj < +150°C

My application works at 100°C, but using a good heatsink I can keep the junction temperature (Tj) under 130°C.

Can I use this component in my application or the max 85°C for ambient temperature (Ta) is mandatory?

    Hi Lorenzo,

    If you can keep the IC temperature below the specified 130C with heatsink, you can operate the device at 100C ambient temperature. However, you have to keep in mind that specs like active/sleep IQ and RDS(on) will be higher at higher ambient operating temperatures.
