DRV8871: Current limit applied, in the opposite direction before it stops?

Part Number: DRV8871

Hi,

On DRV8871, If the motor is rotated in the opposite direction before it stops (the Back electromotive force and the flowing current are in the same direction and a large current flows), is the IC current limit (ILIM set current) still applied?   My customer wants to know whether the current limit is operated.

Thanks and best regards,
M.HATTORI.

  • Hello, Hattori-san,

In normal forward direction, the back EMF is against the input voltage. When the motor is ratoted in opposite direction and the forward PWM signal still applies to the output (the flowing current are in the same direction and a large current flows), the IC's current limit function still works.
