DRV8340-Q1: Singing capacitor C_VCP between VCP and VM

Hello,

We made an application using the DRV8340-Q1 motor driver with a 24V supply. It works okay but there's an audible noise (about 13kHz) coming from the 1uF capacitor C_VCP between VCP and VM.

Thinking we did something wrong in the PCB layout, we bought the DRV8343S-Q1EVM demo board. But the capacitor is singing there too.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to solve this? We tried different MLC sizes and values but that didn't solve the issue.

Nico,

Did you make any changes to the EVM? What conditions are you running the EVM with?

PWM frequency?

IDRIVE settings?

Motor used?

power supply settings?

Can you show a video of the phenomenon?

Hi Adam,

Thanks for responding. I did not change anything to the EVM.

I took it out of the box and connected it to a 24V power supply.

Increased the voltage to about 26V

Then with no motor connect enabled the driver with the DRV8243-Q1 software.

By enabling and disabling the driver the sound switches on and off.

The sound is faint, I don't think I can record it on a video.

Nico,

In both cases, the EVM and on your board, does the sound only occur with no motor connected? How does the sound change when a motor is connected?
