DRV8434S: PGND, GND, and PAD pins

Part Number: DRV8434S

First question:

The PGND pin is shown as the power return for VM. No specification for the delta-V between this ground and GND is provided. Here's why it's important: I have eight of these parts all powered by the same DC-DC converter with isolated outputs. The converter return will be tied to the returns of 6 other DC-DC converters at a single point ground at the power inlet. One of the other DC-DC converters powers all the logic, so we're not talking about a large delta-V between the two grounds....but what's the maximum permitted?

Second question:

We wish to confirm that the thermal pad on the bottom of the part is isolated from either of the other two grounds, and thus is truly a thermal pad, not a ground pad. If it is a ground pad, which one, GND or PGND?

  • Hello,

    1. GND and PGND should be connected together near DRV8434S locally. It should be zero volt. If you have to give a difference, I would give +/-0.3V.

    2. Yes, the thermal pad is not GND and PGND. Please connect the PGND to the thermal pad because we want to give more copper to PGND and thermal pad.
