DRV10983: Acceleration Current Limit

Hi team,

In datasheet, it says "Acceleration current limit is used to provide a means of controlling the amount of current delivered to the motor. This is useful when the system needs to limit the amount of current pulled from the power supply during motor start-up." Also, it says"When the acceleration current limit is active, it does not stop the motor from spinning nor does it trigger a fault. The acceleration current limit function is only available in closed loop control."

I think above two words are in conflict with each other. So is acceleration current limit for start-up or closed loop?

Hi Naizeng,

Thanks for reaching out. The acceleration current limit is only available during closed loop control. Here the "motor startup" refers to the open to closed loop transition. The acceleration current limit is useful at transitions from open loop to closed loop and also when the motor is accelerating in closed loop. During these two conditions, the current amplitude may increase without the acceleration current limit enabled. When setting the register bits to the desired output current, this is the maximum amount of current that will be delivered to the motor [0.2 – 3.0A].
