DRV8814: DRV8814

Part Number: DRV8814

Hi Sir,

Pls kindly help below questions for DRV8814, thanks.

1. IFS is only define for step motor driver? If Step Mode only use in “Full-scale”?

2. If DRV8814 work as DC Motor driver, in Page10,Ichop is means PWM max. current?

ex: If Ichop is 2A, is it means PWM 100%duty,max. current is 2A?

Thanks, Ian.

  • Ian,

    1. The Full-scale current (IFS) and the full-scale (100%) chopping current have a same definition. It  is the peak current regulation value. For a brushed DC motor, the output current is related to the load (when the brushed DC motor speed is low, the output current may reach the IFS chopping setting). For a step motor, the set full-scale current (IFS) is the peak current driven through either winding.

    2. If DRV8814 work as DC Motor driver, in Page10,Ichop means the max. current before DRV8814 chopping it. It doesn't mean 100% PWM duty cycle, you will get the chopping current setting. For example: if the load is 2ohm, input is 10V, the chopping current is 1A, the output current could reach 1A at 20% duty cycle. After the current reach the 1A chopping threshold, DRV8814 would stop driving the current up. If 100% PWM duty cycle, the current would be 10V/2ohm=5A. It is not possible because DRV8814 would chop it.
