DRV8343S-Q1EVM: Can we use DRV8343S-Q1EVM evaluation module for switched reluctance motor?

Part Number: DRV8343S-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8343-Q1,

Hi Team,

Our customer is looking for inverter board and development board for switched reluctance motor. I understand from the SLVAEN9 application report that the DRV8343-Q1 can be use to drive switched reluctance motor. Can you please confirm if the DRV8343S-Q1EVM evaluation module can be use for switched reluctance motor?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

The DRV8343-Q1 EVM can be used to drive a switched reluctance motor, but there are a few modifications that are necessary:

    1. The 3 jumper fuses between the high side source and low side drain (between OUT_x1 and OUT_x2 (were x = a, b, or c)) need to be removed (circled in blue below)

    2. The 6 diodes on the bottom of the board (part number VB30100S-E3/4W or VB30100S-E3/8W can be used) will need to be populated (footprints on EVM shown below). These diodes don't come with the EVM and will have to be ordered separately.

    3. The motor windings will need to be connected in the order as shown below, where SHx corresponds to OUT_x1 and DLx corresponds to OUT_x2 on the EVM.

Let me know if you have any questions,

    Anthony
