DRV10987: SW Pin connection

Part Number: DRV10987

Hi,

I am using the BLDC motor driver DRV10987 in my custom design.

Where the internal switching regulator is not used.

Kindly clarify that in the above case at which mode the switching regulator can be operated either in buck or linear mode (referred sec 8.3.1.1 in DRV10987 datasheet)

 Regards,

Anjanaa

  • Hi Anjanaa,

Thanks for posting on the MD forum!

Just to clarify, you don't plan on  using the switching regulator in your system?

If that's the case then you should put the switching regulator in linear mode.

    Section 8.1 states:

A step-down regulator in buck mode efficiently steps down the supply voltage. The output of this regulator provides power for the internal circuits and can also be used to provide power for an external circuit such as a microcontroller. If providing power for an external circuit is not necessary (and to reduce system cost), configure the step-down regulator as a linear regulator by replacing the inductor with a resistor.

    Does this answer your question?

    Thanks

    Michael
