DRV10983Q1EVM: Register writing not succesful!

Part Number: DRV10983Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10983, USB2ANY

I tried all the suggestions in the thread previously on this, with no luck. I still get the following message: "

Register.vi<ERR>
Register reading not successful!! Please restart the GUI and try again"

Notes:

1. DRV10983 is NOT in sleep mode- I see the switcher switching with a scope, and 5V is present.

2. I un-installed the GUI and USB2ANY and created a new directory with correct permissions, and re-installed them there.

3. I am applying 12.0 V to the EVM, it is drawing around 6mA.

4. Running Windows 10, 64 bit.

5. I can make my motor run by turning the pot, so the DRV10983 is clearly okay. Just the GUI does not seem to be able to communicate with it.

  • Hey Gordon,

If the DRV10983 attempts to drive the motor when turning the potentiometer, then I agree; it sounds like all of your hardware is set up correctly. Unfortunately, that just leaves the software and the communication channel between the computer and the EVM.

    Software:

As a side note, luckily, all software that is used to make the DRV109xx GUI run is compatible with Windows 10.

However, I see that you made a directory to install the DRV109xx GUI and USB2ANY software. Unfortunately, our experience has shown that the GUI has the greatest potential of working when all of the software is installed in the default (and local) directories. To reiterate, since the year has gone by, I have seen the separate directories work for some and not others.

I also noticed you did not mention the 2014 LabView Runtime Engine. This software is mandatory to get the GUI to run and it must also be installed in the default (and local) directory. Any newer versions of the software will not work: http://www.ni.com/download/labview-run-time-engine-2014/4887/en/

Once everything is installed in the correct places, please run DRV109xx GUI in administrator mode. I saw that you mentioned "correct permissions" in your post. I will say that around 60% of the users who experience this error are running into permissions problems. The DRV109xx GUI needs access to the LabView Runtime engine and running GUI in administrator mode allows the software to do that.

    Communication Channel:

Ensure the yellow LED on the USB2ANY is illuminated and not flashing. If it is flashing, then please unplug the USB2ANY and plug it back it. Using a different USB port will help too. Sometimes, the USB port has trouble assigning the commands out of the USB port where the USB2ANY is connected to. Restarting your computer might help too.

I'm sorry this has been such a hassle. We've upgraded the framework for our new GUI's twice since this GUI came out.

    Best,

    -Cole

edit: clarified the default vs. not default directory

  • Gordon,

Did you make sure to install the 2014 labview runtime engine? The GUI won't work with newer versions.

    Thanks,

    Brian
