TPS65400: output level

Part Number: TPS65400

I am trying to generate 5.5V output (2A max) with a supply of 16V and fsw of about 1300KHz.

I have encountered two problems.

1) using the compensation values calculated with the modified spreadsheet at (+) TPS65400: Compensation Calculations - Power management forum - Power management - TI E2E support forums, results in a sawtooth patten with Vp-p of about 800mV.

2) using compensation values closer to the Eval board  results in a cleaner output. however the voltage is about 5.18V instead of 5.5V. the dividers have been set assuming the default VREF value of 0.8V. the VREF value has not been modfied.. what could cause this issue.

snippet is here (note the compensation values have been changed to remove the large ripple):

  • Hi Gebrewold

Would you please share the issued waveforms with Vout, iL and SW, and share the full schematic?

  • can you please confirm the error in the compensation calculation spreadsheet.

Part Number: TPS65400 I noticed that the formula used in calculating Rc in the spreadsheet drops the factor of 2. is this an issue? the formula is 2*PI ....

  • Hi Gebrewold

Yes, I think the spreadsheet drops the factor 2.
