BQ4050: Set design capacity and questions about cell learning

Part Number: BQ4050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, GPCCEDV, BQ40Z50,

Firstly, if I need to skip learning, how do I set cell design capacity and design voltage? I dumped the data flash and found that design capacity is at 0x4440+13 and design voltage is two bytes later. Changing them seems to affect the values reported when accessing the respective SMBus commands.

Secondly, where do I even enter those if I use bqStudio? SLUA903 tells me to specify these but does not indicate where. I do not readily see where to enter these things in the menu, though I do see the GPC Cycle and GPCPackager icons.

  • Hello,

Are you working with the bq4050 or bq40z50? The bq4050 uses the CEDV algorithm for gauging and you will not need to do a learning cycle as described in SLUA903, you should use the GPCCEDV tool to find your gauging coefficients.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
