TPS25200: TPS25200: Soft start - adjustable?

Part Number: TPS25200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2521

Hi,

Does TPS25200 support inrush control?  I'm a bit confuse about below comparison table.  I can't find soft start feature in its datasheet.

if it doesn't support this. would you please recommend one with close Spec? Thanks.

  • Hi Yue,

Thanks for reaching out to us. TPS25200 doesn't support adjustable inrush current control. It's recommended to use TPS2521, our recently lunched eFuse. Please let us know if any more information is required regarding TPS2521. We will be happy to support you.

  • Pal,

Thanks for clarification.  but I need your further assistance. In my case, Customer have been using our TPS25200 in their product and  was doing USB IF test, but failed input inrush current test, please see below test picture.  they want to do a slight change to fix this problem, redesign is unacceptable.  they are inquiring if add a 2.2uF cap at EN pin could help on this issue?  their idea is to delay the switch on for 100ms to jump over the test time frame, appreciate your insight for this kind of issue. thanks.

  • Hi Yue,

Today is holiday at Texas Instruments India. I'll get back to you on Monday, 17-May-2021. Sorry for the delay.

  • Hi Yue,

The device turned on instant can be delayed by incorporating a capacitor at the EN pin. This will help to come out of 100 ms interval, which is considered part of the inrush current event.

In this device, the inrush current can only be controlled by dynamic current limit setting for a particular value of output capacitance. But this option is not viable here as design change is not acceptable. In future, please use TPS2521. It will solve this problem very easily.
