BQ27421-G1: Basic questions about watchdog behaviors

Part Number: BQ27421-G1

Hello team,

I received a question from my customer about BQ27421.

They are investigating whether watchdog can be used as a reset method in case of malfunction such as I2C access.

(* The customer's system cannot remove the battery, so it cannot be recovered by removing and replacing the battery.)

They see the word "WDRESET" in the Technical Reference material, but I hope that you could provide some information about the behavior in the following cases:

[Questions]

① How to use the watchdog?

② What happens when watchdog is activated?

  • Hello team,

How is the inquiry progress going?

I would appreciate it if you could provide me with any feedback soon.

The question is about the watchdog feature within BQ27421.

① How to use the watchdog?

② What happens when watchdog is activated? (An overview of how it works)

If you find the question confusing or if there are any other information needed, please contact us.

    Best Regards,

    Ryotaro Fukui

  • Hi Ryotaro,

Watchdog is used for I2C communication, it cannot ne used for other purposes. If a command is sent frequently, then gauge won't have time to reset watchdog, so watchdog will activated and do a reset, which is WDRESET.

    Best Regards,
    Abraham

  • Hi Abraham,

I am sorry for my late reply. I have received a reply from the customer.

The customer said that they understood the function of this watchdog timer. They also said it couldn't be used for the purpose they wanted, so they're going to look for another device.

Thank you for your advice. I would like to declare this case closed here.

    Best Regards,

    Ryotaro Fukui
