TPS53681: TPS53681 Vboot

Hi,

I tried on Demo, and find that VOUT_COMMAND change cannot be saved after STORE_DEFAULT_ALL, but if VBOOT is changed, after STORE_DEFAULT_ALL command, VOUT_COMMAND can be saved same value as VBOOT. 

I'd like to know if this is OK and why these two value should be aligned? another question is since TPS53681 don't have SVID(then no need to power up Intel platform), just wondering why we still have the VBOOT in the GUI?

  • Hi,

    During start-up, Vout_command is equal to Boot voltage. so it is expected behavior.

    we do have two different registers for Boot and Vout_command to support RESET# function. At steady-state we can change Vout_command value. but it will go back to boot voltage whenever RESET# pin pull to low. Please go through datasheet (page43) for RESET# function details.

    So every time start up, the actual volt should aligned with VBOOT. Then enter into steady state, the volt should aligned with Vout_command,  And we could set up the VBOOT and Vout_command separately in the GUI. correct me if I’m wrong.

    this assumption is not correct. Every start-up time, Vout_command is equal to Vboot. after steady-state also, system will continue with Vout_command which is equal to Boot.We can change Vout_command during steadystae with PMBus, then Vout also change.

    There are no two separate NVM storage registers. TPS53681 controller will store only Boot voltage in NVM, not Vout_command . so Every start-up time, Vout_command is equal to Vboot.

    Got it, so that means if we would like to change the actual Vout when power down, changing Vout_command won't work, since it will equal to Vboot.

    But if we would like to change the actual Vout online(power is on, in steady state), changing Vout_command is OK.

    One more question, does this Vboot & Vout_command rules you mentioned suitable for all multi phase controllers? like intel and non-intel controllers?

    Yes. There is no differences in boot voltage for Intel or Non-intel controllers.
