BQ24259: report Input fault when unplug the adaptor

Part Number: BQ24259
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25601

Hi,

we find that REG09=0X10 for several seconds after I unplug the adaptor for BQ24259.

It will go back to 0x00 after several seconds itself.

But I don't know why it will report Input fault, my guess is the device will only qualify the input when we plug in the adaptor and only at the qualifying process we will judge if the input is good or bad.

  • Hi,

I've found a sentence in the datasheet that says REG09 will be 0x10 when unplug the adaptor.

Then I would like to know how long will it last?

We are trying to read this register twice to determine if the fault is real, and the second time we read is 500ms later than first read, but REG09 is still 0x10, which means that it's not cleared. Then I would like to know how long time does this abnormal fault report will last when unplug the adaptor.

  • Hello Howard,

I will take a look at this further tomorrow.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hello Howard,

REG09 will latch any fault condition, so if the condition is set once when the adaptor is unplugged, the fault will latch until you read it with the host. On the second read it will indicate the current fault conditions.

Take a look at the datasheet section 8.5.1.5.2 Multi-Read and Multi-Write for more information.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Wyatt, the problem is that the second read still shows the fault.

So we would like to know when the fault will gone.

Because it's a bug for BQ24259 to report input fault when I unplug the adaptor. Other devices like BQ25601 doesn't have such problem.

So I ask how long will the fault last, then I can do the second read after the duration.

  • Hello Howard,

Through my testing I have always seen the bit being cleared after the second read, what is the whole process for the adaptor being unplugged and reading the faults?

There is no set duration for the REG09 fault to stay active, it will latch any fault for the first read. The only other condition is if you are setting the fault multiple times from (either bad source or OVP)

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
