BQ2971: Inquiry about replacement products

Part Number: BQ2971
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2970, BQ2973, BQ2972

Hi, TI Support Team

A customer was using the BQ29718DSER, but due to a delivery problem, we are looking for a replacement product.

Please recommend it as an alternative product.

In addition, what is the difference between the BQ2970/BQ2971/BQ2972/BQ2973 series?

Is the internal structure structured differently?

Are the levels of Over-current Protection different?

Please provide detailed information as possible

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hi MJ,

what is the difference between the BQ2970/BQ2971/BQ2972/BQ2973 series?

The BQ297xx uses the last 2 digits to differentiate the configuration.  As new configurations are defined they are assigned new sequential numbers for xx.  So far the sequence has progressed to BQ2973x, when that series is used up it will likely progress to BQ2974x.

The internal structure of the parts is the same, they share the same data sheet.

The levels for protection may be different from other revisions.  Available versions are shown in the data sheet section 5 https://www.ti.com/document-viewer/BQ2970/datasheet/device-comparison-table-slusbu91808#SLUSBU91808 and in the individual product folders such as BQ2970, BQ2971, BQ2972, BQ2973.

Selecting a suitable replacement really must be done by the customer who knows the system requirements.  The customer may review the table and select a replacement based on their requirements.  There are several devices with the same OVP level, but that may not be the only parameter of concern.  Be aware stock can change quickly.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your answer.

    I have additional questions.

I am currently reviewing the BQ29723 product.

I know that auto recovery works after the product is protected.

Is there any way to disable the auto recovery function?

Or is there a product that does not have an auto recovery function with the same spec as the above product?

If there is, please recommend it.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    MJ

  • Hi MJ,

The BQ297x products were designed to have auto recovery.  The presently available options are in secton 5 of the data sheet

  • Hi, WM5259

Is there a product that does not have an auto recovery function with the same spec as the above product?

If there is, please recommend it.

    Thanks.

  • Hi MJ,

Nothing presently does not have auto recovery
