BQ76952: Can REG1 and REG2 be used in parallel? Because I need 89mA of instantaneous current.

Part Number: BQ76952

TI experts,

Can REG1 and REG2 be used in parallel? Because I need 89mA of instantaneous current.

  • Hi Jmyang,

The REG1 and REG2 are not intended to be operated in parallel.   Some options which you might consider:

Is the current requirement short enough to be delivered by a filter capacitor with suitable droop?

Can you split your load so that both operate at the same voltage but power separate circuits?

89 mA is a lot of current from a high voltage battery, a switching regulator may be desirable to reduce losses.

If splitting the load between the 2 LDO outputs is suitable, a switching regulator for REGIN may be preferred to the dropping transistor for power dissipation.

Hope one of these is helpful.
