EV2300-084: The EV2300 connection could not be initiated

Dear All,

I am trying to use EV2300 on windows 10 in Bq Evalution software bqEVSWSetup00.09.59_bq20z95v1.50_bqEasy1.85.exe. But at staring it shows this message and unknown devices in windows devices manager.

I already tried this link for USB driver. e2e.ti.com/.../ev2300-is-ev2300-driver-available-for-windows-10-64-bit

And also I am aware that this is an old devices But these are available to us and we do not have time to buy and switch to the EV2400. I need to connect a BMS board we designed with Bq20z95. I am using Windows 10 64 Bit. If any one has gone through same problem and find solution Please Help.

Hello Aman,

The EV2300 may not work on Windows 10. Customers have had success in about 30% of PCs by using the 64-bit driver. Trying on a different computer(Windows 7, Windows 10 etc) may be a quick exercise, If you have an older computer running Windows XP, then you can use the original driver on it without issues.

Thanks For your Input. It worked on Win7 with above driver. For now I can go on with that. But I still need a Win 10 version Or anything that I can so to work with Win10.

The EV2300 hardware has known issues with newer operating systems. Older products are not updated to work with newer operating systems. We recommend that you upgrade to the newest products (bq40z50 series in this case). If you need to continue to use older products, then it is best to use the older operating systems for which it was designed. If you need more EV2300s you can consider something like MKST-3P-ALT-EV2300

Thanks again for the input.
One more thing I would like to know that if It is possible to update firmware of the EV2300. I have two EV2300 and looked over and found that with two EV2300 we can update one by connecting SMBus to other and shorting J7. Please let me know if this possible If show any document or tool to do so. Where can I get the new firmware?

Hello Aman,

It is possible to update the firmware with two EV2300. The preferred firmware version is 3.1m. The EV2300 is obsolete and therefore the tool/firmware is not available for download from TI. I believe the tool includes the firmware and documentation.

Hi Shirish,

This is what I am getting in response.

Any Idea What to do next to update this?? I followed all the instructions and also rebooted my laptop several times.

Hello Aman,

Check that each EV2300 is recognized by bqEVSW before running the tool. I can't think of any other reason the tool would throw an error.

Hi Shirish,

When I connect the one EV2300 I want to update in bqEVSW it does not through initial error but When connecting with BMS(i.e) bq20z95 it shows USB timeout error. I think this is because of old firmware.

Hello Aman,

In that case, make the EV2300 that shows timeout error as the "DUT". You should also try by removing the jumper on the DUT.

Error code 8 is timeout error.
