BQ25792EVM: Problem with SDRV and ShipFET

Part Number: BQ25792EVM

Hi Team,

My charger was working properly in 4S MODE. i have given input voltage 15.6V to VAC2. connected the battery with 15.1V. it was charging with 1A (in fast charging mode) . but suddenly when i am connected with jumper at SDRV and ShipFET GATE then suddenly the charging was stopped. can you please help me regarding this. when i removed the jumper then charging again started.

Please help me regarding this?

SDRV_CTRL=00; means IDLE state.

Thanks in Advance.

Best Regards,

Malesh Nakka

  • Dear Malesh,

Please tell me the status of JP8, JP5, and JP9 when this is happening. Please include what terminal positions (1-2 or 2-3) you are connecting. If your ShipFET is the only means of conduction to the terminal J5 and you remove the SDRV connection your J5 header won't be able to get power from the charger.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Michael,

                        Thanks for your answer.

                JP5 open, JP8 is connected to 2-3, JP9 connected to 1-2.

if i am not wrong I have found a bypass diode in ShipFET . I think the power will pass through bypass diode to the J5 Header(Battery), even i remove the JP8 (2-3) connection.

Case1: When i am not connected the JP8 (all open) ,JP5 also open, JP9 was connected to 1-2, in this case my charger is charging the battery. I think power is passing through bypass diode to charge the battery.

Case2: When i am connected the JP8 (2-3), JP5 open, JP9 connected to 1-2, in this case my charger not charging the battery. i have a doubt regarding this case. why the charging was stopped?

    Please help me.

    Thanks & Regards

  • Dear Malesh,

Can you please send a capture of all of your registers when it works and doesn't work (preferably with Battery Management Studio)?

In addition, what is your battery voltage, regulation voltage setting, and input voltage at the times it does/doesn't work?

    Thanks,

    Mike Emanuel
