BQ76952: BQ76952 continuous Discharge increases AFE's internal Die temperature

Part Number: BQ76952

Hi Sir,

I have observed while doing continuous discharge test at higher current rating the internal die temperature of AFE is increasing gradually. As far as I know AFE internal die temperature increases while doing cell balancing but while doing Continuous as we are doing passive Cell balancing it should not increase right?

the rated of increase of Die temperature varies with increase in current.

Below I have shared data how it is increasing with discharge current

Time interval minutes  Pack Current  AFE Die Temp(°C)
0 0 68.15
2 -25A 55.05
4 -25A 61.75
6 -25A 67.55
8 -25A 72.35
10 -25A 76.25
12 -25A 79.85
14 -25A 82.45
16 -25A 84.15
17 -25A 85.05

& then as we have put threshold of 85'C max so cut off happened & mosfets turned off as well as AFE stopped communicating with MCU.

REG18 1.8V is present but no communication is happening between AFE & MCU

  • Hi Pankaj,

Current from the battery should cause no increased current in the BQ76952.  Current from the battery will heat the sense resistor and the FETs which will heat the board and the BQ76952.  Check the temperatures in the circuit to see where the heat is coming from.
