LM5050-1: ORing controller LM5050-1 in dual PSU application

Part Number: LM5050-1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM7480-Q1, LM74700-Q1

Hi team,

My customer is using our LM5050-1 to build redundancy power system. There are two PSU connected to two different LM5050-1.

Customer has faced a reverse current issue when Oring controller on -off transition.

Mosfet1 of Oring is turned off too slow since Mosfet2 of Oring is turned on already. Therefore, there are leakage reverse current flow into PSU1.

Customer  would ask whether TI have the higher gate current capabilty  Oring that it can turn off the Mosfet1 of oring fast.

Do we have the lower VSD threshold solution for it? I only can get LM5050-1 for the maximum Igate solution.

Any suggestion for this behavior is welcome. Thanks.

  • Hi Feng Bin,

If customer wants lower reverse current threshold than LM5050-1, they can consider using LM7480-Q1 or LM74700-Q1. All the three devices have similar Gate sink current (2.3A - 2.8A) but LM7480-Q1 and LM74700-Q1 have lower reverse current threshold which result in faster turn OFF and hence reduced amount of reverse current.
