TPS63900: External Load drive issue which reset system due to Buck-Boost Convertor

Part Number: TPS63900

Hello TI Team,

We have designed 3V(1.8V to 3.2V range) LiMnO2 based Battery operated product which uses TPS63900 Buck-boost convertor 3.3V to supply system SoCs.

The Overall system Active current is 30 to 50mA during Active mode and 5 to 10uA during sleep mode.

But once we connect any external measurement load like current meter at the input of the system, it is resetting the system continuously and need your support to solve this issue.

Currently, Buck boost convertor is set with unlimited current mode with CFG1-36.5KOhm and CF2 and CFG3 is connected to Ground as per below attached image.

Can you please support to identify this issue due to TPS63900 and resolve.

Thank you,

Nilav Choksi

  • Hi Nilav,

please measure the VIN waveform. it seem the device trigger UVLO as you add current meter

  • Hi Jasper,

    Thank you for your resolution.

We have checked input during continuous reset and received low voltage (1.7V) dips continuously which means it triggers UVLO.

So, How can I can bare this load and solve UVLO condition? Is there any Hardware settings required to solve?

I also observed the other conflict point is, when I disconnect load from the board still output remains 3.3V till sometime so it is resetting during fraction voltage drop?

I am looking for your help to resolve this issue due to critical milestone.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Nilav,

please don't add current meter at the input side.

if you real what to measure the current, just add less than 100mohm in series with the battery, and measure the voltage drop of the resistor.

make sure the cable between the battery and the IC is short and stronge.

  • Hi Jasper,

    Thank you for your resolution.

We have checked input during continuous reset and received low voltage (1.7V) dips continuously which means it triggers UVLO.

So, How can I can sustain this load and solve UVLO condition? Is there any Hardware settings required to solve?

I also observed the other conflict point is, when I disconnect load from the board still output remains 3.3V till sometime. And when press switches during low load condition, it is resetting with fraction voltage drop at input. So, is it expected function of Buck-boost?

I am looking for your help to resolve this issue due to critical milestone.

  • Hi Nilav,

you sent two same post, which confused me a lot.

I don't fully understand your observation. could you share the waveform to show that?
