BQ77PL900EVM-001: EV2400 Not Recognized by Computer for i2c Communication with the BQ77PL900EVM-001

Part Number: BQ77PL900EVM-001

I have a BQ77PL900EVM-001 and am attempting to use the bq77PL900 software with the EV2400 USB device to program and read data from the BQ77PL900EVM-001 over i2c. When I first plugged in the EV2400 into my laptop over USB, a message appeared that a new device was recognized. However, when I open the bq77PL900 software I immediately get an error message that no USB devices can be found. In the Device Manager, the EV2400 shows up as a "USB Input Device" under the Human Interface Device category with no additional information when I click on the device. I would expect it to identify the device as the EV2400 or a TI product. All of the 4 EV2400 LEDs are On, the Q77PL900EVM-001 is powered on (and providing power to a load LED), the BQ77PL900EVM-001 and EV2400 are connected via i2c. I've installing the Support components to enable specific TI software (bqEVSW) to work with EV2400 but the issues persist. I've also tried swapping the USB cable. This is the third TI support resource I've been referred to over this question, so I'm really hoping I can get an answer to the issues I'm having. I appreciate the help.

  • Hi Justin,

See the instructions in the BQ77PL900EVM-001 user guide section 5.3 Install The bq77PL900EVM Software The BQ77PL900 software requires the support components, but the ones in the EV2400 tool folder are outdated.  The bqEasy software shown in step 4 will update the support components, you don't otherwise need the bqEasy for BQ77PL900.

Do not install the EV2400 tool folder support components after bqEasy or the support components will be overwritten with the older non-working ones.

Then exit all the TI software (if you have bqEasy running or BQStudio, they might take over the EV2400 use and BQ77PL900 EVSW can't find it), plug in EV2400 to USB, and start the bq77PL900EVSW.  Without the device it should show "I2C Comm Status: Error" in the right top and scan through registers.  When the board/device is connected and powered the status should change and the registers populate with the values.

When you plug in the EV2400 it will likely show up as EV2400 in the pop up window, but once installed at that port I don't see that.  In Device Manager it is a Human Interface Device.

Please let us know if this helps.

  • I can't believe I missed that note in the BQ77PL900EVM-001 user guide, but after installing bpEasy software I'm able to connect over i2c to the BQ77PL900EVM-001 through the bq77PL900EVSW. Thank you so much for solving my issue!
