LM74670-Q1: Use as a Dc polarity selector

Part Number: LM74670-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM74700-Q1

Can the LM74670 be used to replace a full-wave bridge used to insure proper DC polarity selection?

My input criteria is a DC input of 4V-40V DC @ up to 15Amps, and I want to use a bridge to insure the proper polarity is observed.   Would rather not use a bridge that would dissipate a fair amount of power if I don't have to, and it seems that if my input was AC there would be no concern, but in this case, my input is DC.

  • Hi David,

In case you want to rectify the input (irrespective of polarity) and supply only +ve voltage at load, you will have to use a full bridge rectifier. You can have a look at below reference design for this approach.

    12-VAC to 28-VAC, 7.5-W to 25-W ideal diode full-bridge rectifier reference designPMP22504

In case you just want to block -ve  voltage at input and only allow +ve voltage to the load, the solution would be simple. You can consider using 1x LM74700-Q1 for input reverse polarity protection.
