TPSM5601R5HEVM: Configuration for inverting buck boost

Guru 19645 points
Part Number: TPSM5601R5HEVM

I considering for setting inverting buck boost on TPSM5601R5HEVM, referenced by below application note.

(24Vin ⇒ -12Vout / 0.5A)

https://www.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/an/snva962/snva962.pdf

Please let me confirm about three points below for TPSM5601R5HEVM setting;

・About application note P5, additional components are connect to below position, correct?

 CBYP: C1

CBULK: J2 to J3 (Vin and Vout side)

 Schottky diode: C13

・When unused EN control, is EN pin connect to Vin. OK?

Or, is EN need to provide additional level shifting circuit for all condition?

・EVM default setting of Cout is 47μF ×2, but application note P8 is described Cout: 4.7μF ×2.

Is Cout need to change Cout: 4.7μF ×2 for inverting buck boost condition?

Best regards,

Satoshi

  • Hello Satoshi,

    1. Yes, that is a way to connect the following components. For example, I personally had a through-hole diode connected on terminal block J4 instead.
    2. Yes, if EN control is not needed, then EN tied to VIN is okay. The level-shifting circuitry is only needed if enabling/disabling feature is needed. It alleviates any problems associated with the offset EN threshold voltages.
    3. No, original BOM is correct (two 47μF). That is a typo and will be updated/changed as soon as possible. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

    Regards,
