Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24180, BQ27510-G2

Hi,

We are considering using either BQ27510-G2 or BQ24180 with commercially available ipod nano batteries. Here is an example of one we are thinking.

Could you please point out pros/cons of each option? Are there any caveats you could share or resource you could point to?

I am hoping there is a quick answer to this.

    Those ICs perform completely different functions.  The bq27510-G2 is a fuel gauge and will tell you how much capacity is currently available in your batteries, how much run-time you have left, the state of health of the batteries, etc.  The bq24180 is for charging your battery.  Of course I would recommend that you use both together!  :)

     

    Note that adding a fuel gauge will require some additional work to characterize the battery and configure the gauge.  See this post for more info:

    Hi dMax,

    Thanks for your response. Your recommendation is well taken. But still one question remains unanswered. We are investigating use of replacement iPod nano batteries in the market along with BQ27510-G2. Before we do all the work with fuel gauge, we want to make sure the gauge is compatible with the battery I have in mind.
