BQ27532-G1: Unable to enter ROM mode / Device unresponsive

Part Number: BQ27532-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24250, BQ27532EVM-656

Hi,

I'm using a BQ27532-G1 with a BQ24250 as the charger.
I have created a golden image using the BQ27532EVM-656.

I'm unable to flash the golden image (.srec or .bq.fs) to our hardware.
It will flash successfully to the EVM.

It always fails after the enter ROM mode command, with no response to any of the 0x0B address packets.

Hoping someone will be able to help me solve this issue.
Is there a known cause for this?

  • Raymond,

In order to enter ROM mode the device must be unsealed and in Full access mode. Can you verify the sealed status of the device as a first step?

    thanks,

    Eric Vos

  • Hi Eric,

    Thanks for the tip.
It looks like I can unseal the device (SS bit cleared), but not get into full access mode (FAS bit remains set).

I have not changed the access keys, is there anyway to set them back to default?

  • Raymond,

if the keys were changed somehow without knowing them we cannot get the device to do it manually. This would be a security risk if we had the option to break into a device.

Might need to grab a new IC and swap them.

I did notice you still have the dashboard running (green bar top left). This will communicate in the background so there is a chance you are interrupting the unseal attempt without knowing. I would try again disabling that bar.

    Thanks,

    Eric Vos

  • Hi Eric,

    Thanks for the help.
Replacing the IC solved the issue. I can now program the srec file.
