TPS3613-01: About backup-battery switchover function.

Hi Team,

We have three questions.

---------

[Q1]

We would like to use backup-battery switchover function with Electric double layer capacitor.

I think that VDD, VBAT, SENSE, VOUT pins are the following circuit.

Could you please let us know the problem if you have any concern?

---------

[Q2]

If VDD=VBAT at the [Q1] circuit, could you please let us know the behavior of VOUT?

So, which is output, VDD or "VBAT?

---------

[Q3]

If we don’t use /CEIN, /CEOUT, /MR, /RESTET, can these pins be open (no connect)?

---------

Regards,

Hide

  • Hi Hide-san,

For Q1, I do not see an issue with your schematic.

For Q2, only when (SENSE < VIT) and (VBAT > VDD) does VOUT see VBAT.  See below:

    For Q3,

/MR - Can be left floating as it is internally pulled up to VDD for operation.

/CEIN - Can be tied to GND

/CEOUT - Can be left as NC

/RESET - Can be left as NC

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Ben

  • Hi Ben-san,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

    I have one more question.

    My understanding is as follows.

    Is my understanding correct?

-If (SENSE < VIT) and (VBATVDD), VOUT is VDD.

-If (SENSE > VIT) and (VBAT= VDD), VOUT is VDD.

    Regards,

    Hide

  • Hi Hide-san,

For your first question, if /MR is floating or NC, then VOUT is VBAT.  See blue circle

For your second question, VOUT is always VDD.  See green circle.

Also, there is hysteresis on to switch from VBAT to VDD.  See below:

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
