TPS55288: Behavior with hiccup mode turned off

I would like to use the TPS55288 to charge some supercaps with hiccup mode turned off.  Will it be able to support CC mode if hiccup mode is turned off?  If so, is there a way to duplicate that functionality with the TPS552882 (which does not have i2c).

    Maybe you could use TPS55288/TPS552882 output current limit funtion to achieve CC mode, not hiccup mode.

    By selecting a suitable current sense resistor, the output current is limited at certain value. Please see datasheet for more details.

  • Thanks Zack, my plan is to use the output current limit function, but the datasheet does not say what will happen when the hiccup mode is turned off.

    What happens if you short the output with the hiccup mode turned off? will the current limit be active?

    To trigger hiccup, after soft start-up time of 4 ms, the TPS55288 monitors the average inductor current and output voltage. Whenever the output short circuit happens, causing the average inductor current hitting the set limit and the output voltage below 0.8 V. So it's not suitable for be used for a capacitor charging application.

    If the hiccup mode is turned off, the current limit is still active.
