AM3703 Battery management

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3715, TPS65950, TPS65921

Hi,

We succesfully completed testing of AM3715 development board for our product. Now we are designing a proto board for our needs. As our hand held product is battery operated can you suggest a design notes w.r.to PMIC TPS65950. The requirements listed below

1. single cell LI-ION battery charging and device functionality when 5V  (terminal  jack and/or USB OTG) connected

2. Selection of power input from 5V jack  when jack and USB OTG terminals are connected

3. Battery need to supply the power when both the 5V jack/USB are disconnected

4. Battery status monitering for voltage threshold levels and battery charge.

Thanks,

  • Hi,

    TPS65950 will satisfy your requirements:

    1. ok, AC charging with 5V is fine (AC charging is automatic as well as SW controlled). USB charging is not automatic, needs SW control

    2. External circuit is required, device is not intelligent to select.

    3. ok, this is normal operation if battery is charged.

    4. Device doesnt have a gauge but you can use internal ADC to check battery levels.

Another alternate and a better option is TPS65921. Please have a look at the product folder and documents.
