BQ76952: False turn on during cell balancing

Dear TI Team,

I have been using external balancing on bq76952 as in the image from the application note shown below.

I have noticed that on 10th and 5th cell balancing is turned on periodically when:

  • For 10th cell: 11th cell is being balanced. But not then both 11th and 9th cells are being balanced 
  • For 5th cell: 6th cell is being balanced. But not then both 6th and 4th cells are being balanced

The scope shot across CE of external balancing NPN for 10th cell is as in the image below

 

Notice that how the turn ON is in synch with the 525 msec balancing turn off time period for voltage measurements and 1 sec time period for COV and CUV measurements.

Please help me with this issue.

    Hi Manuj,

    I am not sure I completely understand the description of the issue. Are you using commands to control the balancing or are you using the autonomous balancing feature? If you are able to access the voltages near the VC pins on your board, this might be easier for me to see what is happening. Can you also share your schematic for the cell balancing circuit?
