REF200: REF200 maximum and minimum junction temperature

Part Number: REF200

In datasheet, I am seeing -25 and 85 as minimum and maximum operating temperature but nothing mentioned about junction temperature range. Also I can see current variation with temp graph andtemperature specify from -50 to 125 deg C. So whether device can operate from -40degc to 125 deg C junction temperature?

Also no where mentioned about junction to case temp or ambient temp in datasheet, how to calculate that. Whether part is qualified for Industrial grade?

My requirement is to work from -40 deg C to 95 deg C with 12V supply and 0.1mA both channel use. Whether this part can meet this requirement?

  • Hi Rajeev,

This part was made in a time before thermal resistance was as big a deal as it is today. Since this is an SOIC-8 package, the thermal resistance is around RJA = 120C/W (search for S8 thermal resistance table on Bing or look for any part with the same package and look at it's thermal table).

Your design, if that 100uA is an average value and there are no sustained larger currents would mean for 1.2mW max given your voltage. This means the temperature rise =(120C/W)*(1.2mW) which is much less than 1C.

To your question, the 85C abs max assumes the current mirror is being used, which it does not. This means your design will be fine, even at 95C.

  • Thanks Tony for response.

What is the junction temperature rated for is it 125Deg C or 150 Deg C? How much derating I have when I am operating both 100uA channels with 12V supply voltage

What is the minimum junction temperature it can work? I am seeing -25deg C operating recommended operating condition while max operating condition as -40 deg C. Whether device is going on stress when its getting on at -40 degC?

  • Hi Rajeev,

Let me reach out to the designers and see what the max junction temperature is. I will get back to you soon.

  • Hi Rajeev,

The junction is rated at 125C. I think the question of derating addresses performance metrics, but for our discussion (the maximum operating conditions), derating is not an issue.

The minimum junction temp will be the same as the abs min operating temp in this case, which is -40C.

  • Thanks Tony for confirmation.
