TPS548A20: Rtrip minimum value

Part Number: TPS548A20

My nominal load current is 1.5A, but I'd like to set the maximum DC load to ~130% of that value (1.95A).  Using Equation (3) in the datasheet, this leads me to 8.06k for Rtrip.  According to section 7.3.7 of the datasheet, R_trip is recommended to be >20k.  What is the reason for this limit?  Is there an issue with 8.06k?

  • When using a Rtrip values lower than 20kohm, the device will current limit to a lower value.

The further the Rtrip is from 20kOhm, the tolerance will be worse than shown in the datasheet.

The current sense signal is smaller and the offset errors in the sense circuit become greater.

The datasheet parameters are tested, validated for 20kohm to 65kohm with the tolerance stated in the datasheet.

There is no simulation, test or characterization data outside of this range.
