TPS274160: Thermal shutdown affects device reliability?

Part Number: TPS274160

Hi Experts,

This device can support the current limit. When the current limit condition occurs, the thermal shutdown which is Tj is larger than 160 degC occurs.

The question is when the number of thermal shutdown events affects the device reliability, because the device abs max Tj is 150 degC.

Do you have any comments?

Uchikoshi

  • Hi Uchikoshi-san,

It really depends on how much time the device is between 150 degC and the thermal shutdown temp of 160 degC. If it's an overcurrent event causing thermal shutdown, which means the time spent between abs max and thermal shutdown is very small, there should be little to no effect for the reliability.

However, if there is some special situation where device spent a lot of time between 150degC and 160 degC (higher than the abs max, but not high enough to trigger the thermal shutdown), then long time running in such situation will affect reliability. I can't think of a situation like this for now. If customer has special application cases, please let us know.

    Regards,

    Yichi
