BQ24179: Power dissipation calculations.

Hi team, helping someone on this device. How do you calculate the BQ24179 power dissipations at a 1A charge current with switching frequency of 1.5MHz. Couldn't really get to this using the datasheet. Is there additional documentation or can you please help?

Hi Kannan,

Eff = Pout/Pin and Pout = Pin-Ploss where Ploss is the power dissipation. So you can then solve for Ploss in terms of either Pin or Pout and use the efficiency curves in the datasheet for efficiency value. Note that Ploss includes inductor losses plus IC losses with can be estimated at as IINavg^2 * DCR. Once you have IC losses, you can use the thermal table in datasheet section 7.4.
