TPS61196: Is there a similar device without the boost part?

Hi Team

My customer is considering TPS61196 as their LED driver, but they don't need the boost part(they already have other device for the voltage they need).

I checked past E2E threads of TPS61196 and noticed that a similar issue was posted before and the answer to that thread was 'TPS61196 can be used as current sink without using the boost part'.

I'll try explaining this to the customer but do we have an LED driver similar to TPS61196 that only has the current sink part? As cost down is their top priority I think we'll be more competitive if we can provide such a solution.

Please let me know if you have any recommendation regarding this.

Hi David,

Yes the device can be used as slave mode without the boost. You could refer section 8.1 in datasheet.

Hi David,

Do you know how many channel and how much current customer want to use, also the input voltage level and the LED configuration? We do not have very similar linear power device with TPS61196. From the system requirements maybe we can find some other solution.

Thanks for your reply.

The input voltage is 5V(preferred) or 12V, with 4 channels 100mA each.

The channel setting they plan to use is listed below:

1ch：LED1
2ch：LED2
3ch：LED2
4ch：LED1

Please let me know if we can provide any solution regarding this.

Hi David,

Thanks for the information. For the LED configuration we want to know is how many LEDs are in series, which determines the voltage supply of LEDs and max rating for output channel.

Another thing is what application this driver used in?

But basically they use 2 LEDs in series.
