BQ76952EVM: Downgraded on-board EV2400 MCU to v0.28. Can I return to v0.32 as delivered ?

Part Number: BQ76952EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, EV2400, BQ76952, BQ40Z50

Hello

I did not think I was getting USB comms to/from BQStudio because, on start, BQStudio did not recognise the BQ76952EVM board and opened the dialog to select the Monitor type.

While investigating, I used the EV2400 Firmware Updater v0.28 and realised I have downgraded the MCU from it's v0.32 as delivered.

Is there an updater to restore to v0.32 ? I believe the EV2400 is communicating with the BQ76952 but I may not realise there is an issue.

What does v0.32 offer or fix and, if I need it, please advise if there is an updater.

All the best
Harry

  • Hi Harry,

Here is the link to the EV2400 v0.32 Firmware: https://tidrive.ext.ti.com/u/hFkU19bZFNWWWRTW/EV2400Updater-0.32-windows-installer.exe.zip?l

If BQStudio is not recognizing the device, it might be that you are not using the latest version of BQStudio. The BQ76952 requires v1.3.102 or higher. You can download the latest BQSTUDIO-TEST version here: https://www.ti.com/tool/BQSTUDIO

This is a newer device and needs to use the "TEST" version.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Thank you Matt

I think it was misunderstanding. Having re-read the User Guide I can see that BQStudio doesn't automatically recognise the device (as it does with the BQ40z50 and EV2300 I am using). I always need to select the .bqz file from the Target Selection Wizard.

I have been testing with the stable 1.3.101 and TEST 1.3.104 so I will use the TEST version as I continue. Leave this with me today and I will come back to you if I have any issue or I will close the ticket.

Thanks again and all the best
    Harry

  • Hi again Matt,

BQStudio -TEST 1.3.104 is sensing the board and BQ76952 so I am running.

I have a related question on running two BQStudio versions. The client's production person presently uses the STABLE 1.3.101 for production on another product. To test if I could run two versions, I removed my existing version and deleted the C:\ti\BatteryManagemenStudio folder.

    I then installed both as:

    C:\ti\bqstudio_1.3.101\BatteryManagementStudio
    C:\ti\bqstudio_1.3.104\BatteryManagementStudio

and changed the desktop icon names to reflect the two versions.

This all appears to run fine but I am unsure if there are any common configurations that may conflict.

Registry values for 1.3.101 and 1.3.104 look like the two run independently.

Please let me know if running two versions can be run this way or an alternative method.

    All the best
    Harry

  • Hi Harry,

I have never tried running two different versions myself, but I have seen others within our team do this without a problem. I think it should work.

Version 1.3.104 should be backwards compatible though, so if they wanted to upgrade to 1.3.104 there should be no issue. Our software team is very conservative so the "TEST" version is very stable (it has been in use for some time without any issues), but they wait a few months before updating the "STABLE" version to make sure no problems are reported.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

Thank you for the feedback. I will talk to the production guy about adjusting his setup.

    All the best
