BQ24075-Q1: NTC Thermistor connection

Part Number: BQ24075-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34210-Q1, , BQ24075
Hi Team,
We plan to use BQ24075-Q1 for power path integrated battery charger and BQ34210-Q1 for fuel gauge. Since both the IC's have TS input, what would be the best possible way to connect these TS inputs to the NTC thermistor in the battery pack?
  • Hello Jaya,

You will need to select which IC gets the NTC, cannot be tied together. Some things to consider

    • The fuel gauge has an internal temperature sensor that can be used
    • If thermal monitoring of battery is not needed for charger it can be disabled with a fixed 10k to GND
    • sometimes customers use 2 NTCs in the battery pack for this situation

    Best regards,

    Nick

  • Hi Nick,

Thank you for the prompt response, we were checking for a design option.

We plan to disable thermal monitoring of battery for charger with a fixed 10k to GND. However we plan to use a GPIO from controller to give 'Charge Enable' for BQ24075.

If there is a provision to read battery temperature from fuel gauge, we could Enable/Disable charging based on that using charge enable. Please share your suggestion on this plan.

  • Hi Jaya,

We are closed on 07/05 in observance of Independence Day and will get back to you when we return to the office by 07/07.

    Best regards,

    Eric

  • Hello Jaya,

That option will ensure the gauge gets the most accurate temperature reading of battery, good for gauging performance. You can use Temperature(): 0x06 and 0x07.

    Best regards,

    Nick
