UCC21750-Q1: IGBT short detection

Part Number: UCC21750-Q1

Hi experts,

If the IGBT collector is short to emitter with no current flowing through IGBT, can UCC21750-Q1 detect this fault? I think no because DESAT is not working under this conditon, would like to double check with you.Thank you.

Your understanding is 100% correct. If C-E was shorted, the collector voltage would never rise , and thus DESAT pin voltage can't rise above threshold. Only shunt / sense with OC pin UCC217xx variant would be able to detect short.

However, if this was in a half bridge or another config with multiple IGBT connected to the switch node, the OTHER driver would be able to detect this problem very soon after it turned its IGBT on, so there is some level of redundancy here .
