UCC28782: Ferrite beads in series with the clamp capacitor

Part Number: UCC28782

Hello TI-Team,

In UCC28782EVM, ferrite beads are included in series with the clamp capacitor on the primary side. What is the purpose of inserting ferrite beads?

One possible reason is EMI countermeasures, but is there anything else you need to think about?

Is it a necessary part for the operation mode?

Is it okay to delete it if there is no problem with noise?

If you need more than noise, please tell me how to choose ferrite beads.

Kind regards

TETSU

  • Hello Tetsu-san,

Thank you for your interest in the UCC28782 flyback controller and EVM.  The ferrite bead in series with the clamp capacitor is mainly to dampen high frequency ringing to reduce EMI noise.  It is not necessary for ACF operation.  It is okay to delete it if there is no noise problem.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
