Our EV2300 in production has failed and we are unable to find a new EV2300 to replace it.
So we purchased the EV2400 and tried to establish communication to using Battery Management Studio and very limited success. The dashboard information gets populated, however no other communications seems to work.
Any tips, tricks or other hacks would be greatly appreciated.
.
Thanks
Hi Kevin,
Does the EV2400 autodetect the gauge when you start up BQStudio? Can you confirm that you are plugged into the I2C port? Have you tried updating the EV2400 to the latest firmware version? Can you connect a scope to capture the communication between the EV2400 and gauge? Lastly, do you have another gauge you can try testing with to make sure it's the EV2400, and not the gauge, that isn't working?
Best,
Jessica
Jessica,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes ... The program/EV2400 does auto detect the gauge as a 4401_44_02. I get the message from the program stating it is not compatible and proceed at your our risk.
Yes ... I2C port.
I have a previously configured unit that is confirmed to be working and I was hoping to create an image or copy the configuration from it. The information on dashboard appears to tie to the information reported by the portable device. I also have a new unconfigured unit that gives incorrect information to the studio dashboard.
I am fairly sure I can get my hands onto a scope, what would be the best connection points to look at?
Thanks,
Kevin Legg
Hi Kevin,
You can look at the SDA and SCL lines to see if any communication goes through. Are you using BQStudio or the evaluation software on the product page? If you are using BQStudio then it sounds like it's just missing the correct bqz file. Do you normally use this software in production?
Best,
Jessica
Jessica,
I have had the best luck with BQStudio and yes the there is not a bqz file specifically for the bq27210. Do you know if one exists? The production PC is running Win 98 running bq27x10 evaluation software. When I attempted to use on my Win10 machine, it would not recognize the USB port and there was no option to use the EV2400 ... Only EV2200 or EV2300.
I will track down a scope tomorrow if need be.
Thanks again,
Kevin
Jessica,
Just a quick follow up ...
Hooked a scope up to the SCL and SDA lines and the EV2400 is sending signals back and forth. However, the voltage level when connected to our device dropped from 3.2Vdc (no connection) to 2.0 Vdc. So, I added pull up resistors and got it up to 3.26V.
Any luck with finding a bqz file for the 27210?
Thanks,
KPL
Hi Kevin,
I apologize for the delayed response. I was not able to find a bqz file for the bq27210. Did adding the pull up resistors help with communication to bqStudio? The EV2400 is backwards compatible with EV2300 functionality so it should still work with the evaluation software if you select EV2300.

Jessica
