BQ40Z50: Unsuspected "IT Gauging 2 Configuration" row in gg-file

Part Number: BQ40Z50
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hello, we have a number of BQ40z50, device number 4500, fw number 0.12 build number 24 that we have issues with.

When we program them with an old gg-file that was made in 2015 it goes corrupt.

We extracted a gg-file from a battery that was made 2015 and noted that a new row has now appeared, "IT Gauging 2 Configuration".

The devices are programmable with the extracted gg-file and the only thing that seems to differ from the original is this added row.

So the devices are only programmable if the "IT gauging 2 configuration"-row exists in the gg-file.

When was this extra row in the gg-file added and what does it do?

We cant find it in any technical reference or datasheet.

The only thing that has changed to our knowledge since 2015 is the version of BQStudio.

  • Hello,

Are you sure the new gauges you received are BQ40z50 and not a newer firmware version? If you upload an old .gg file into  new gauge it may cause some corruption because the flash locations are modified.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Yes, we are sure that it is the old BQ40Z50.

We have the original .gg file that the BQ40Z50s were programmed with in 2016. The thing is that the .gg file differs from the .gg file that we extract from the BQ40Z50s now that they have come back from the field.

The difference is this new line "IT gauging 2 configuration" that we cant find in the documentation.

  • Hello,

The formatting should be the same for all BQ40Z50 .gg files. The only thing that would cause an error like this is if either an older gauge was uploaded with newer .gg file, or a newer gauge was uploaded with older .gg file. By new and old I mean the R1,R2,R3,R4 firmware versions.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
