BQ25601: About Shipping mode operation

Part Number: BQ25601

Hi,

Customer is using shipping mode with the following steps:

Step1.With VBUS power supply and with BATFET connection
Step2. Write “1” from the host MCU to REG07 [5](Instruct the Shipping Mode transition in BATFET_DIS)
Step3. BATFET_DIS disconnects BATFET to generate SYS voltage from VBUS feed only
Step4. SYS voltage is lost due to VBUS disconnection and power supply to MCU etc. is completely stopped (= product transportation mode)

A problem occurs while using BQ25601 in the above step.
Could you give me some advice on the following questions?

1.After using "BATFET_DIS", if BQ25601 fails to turn off BATFET, can I check it in the internal register information?
Or can the above status be grasped by the INT signal?

2. Is it possible that BATFET_DIS does not disconnect the BATFET due to the effect of multiple processing inside the charging IC?
Is there any case where Sipping mode was not enabled, not limited to BQ25601?

Best regard,
Yusuke

  • Hi Yusuke,

We are closed on 07/05 in observance of Independence Day and will get back to you when we return to the office by 07/07.

    Best regards,

    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

    Thank you for your response.
We look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Hello Yusuke,

Do they have the BATFET delay enabled? It may take 12sec to turn off the BATFET after the command is sent. The BATFET_DIS bit will reset if any of the conditions specified in section 8.3.8.2 BATFET Enable (Exit Shipping Mode) of the datasheet are met.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Keller,

Thank your for your response and support.

    >Do they have the BATFET delay enabled?
Are the above features listed in the datasheet?

Could you give us your opinion on the following contents?

1.After using "BATFET_DIS", if BQ25601 fails to turn off BATFET, can I check it in the internal register information?
Or can the above status be grasped by the INT signal?

  • Hello Yusuke,

Yes it is the BATFET_DLY bit and is described in the datasheet, 8.4.8 REG07.

As I mentioned, if the BATFET_DLY is set then it will take ~12sec to shut the BATFET off after the command is sent. If the BATFET_DLY is not set the BATFET should turn off immediately. The only indication will be the BATFET_DIS bit, but it will not reflect the delay, you will have to wait for the delay if it's enabled to know if there's an issue.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Keller,

Thank you for your kind support.
    >Do they have the BATFET delay enabled?
    BATFET_DLY was disabled.
Customer is thinking that chattering when inserting and removing VBUS may have an effect.
However, they are in trouble because they do not have a register to grasp the ON state of BATFET.

    >The only indication will be the BATFET_DIS bit
Is there any other way to check the Shipping mode?

  • Hello Yusuke,

The BATFET_DIS bit will indicate the BATFET status when BATFET_DLY is disabled. What may be occurring is a separate condition that takes the charger back out of ship mode. Is this happening with 1 device or many?

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Keller,

This issue is occurring on multiple devices.
However, it does not always occur.
Therefore, the customer wanted to use register to make sure they were in ship mode.
