TPS1HB35-Q1: Working with TPS1HB35AQPWPRQ1 at 24volt

Part Number: TPS1HB35-Q1

Hello,

I would like to switch on/off 24volt power to a load.

TPS1HB35-Q1seems a good choice. However nominal voltage is 18 volt although the datasheet says that it can work at up to 28 volt
7.3 Recommended Operating Conditions
VBB Nominal supply voltage (1) 6 18 V
VBB Extended higher supply voltage(2) 18 28 V
being: (2) Device parameters still valid, short circuit protection valid to value specificed by VSC parameter (VSC=18volt)
Table 11-1. OPERATING VOLTAGE RANGE
3 V to 6 V Transients such as cold crank and start-stop, functional operation are specified but some parametric specifications may not apply. The device is completely short-circuit protected up to 125°C.
6 V to 18 V Nominal supply voltage, all parametric specifications apply. The device is completely short-circuit protected up to 125°C.
18 V to 40 V Transients such as jump-start and load-dump, functional operation specified but some parametric specifications may not apply.
What does it mean? Does TPS1HB35AQPWPRQ1 not have short circuit protection when working at 24volt?
Thank you in advance,
Jorge
  • Hi Jorge,

From the datasheet standpoint, your understanding is correct. We cannot guarantee short circuit protection with supply voltage greater than 18V. The device may still protect itself above 18V, but you will need to do the validation in your application.

Normally, you will want to pick the device with working voltage within the nominal operating voltage. The extended voltage range is really designed for any transient voltages and meant to be short-term - not long term operation.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Regards,

    Yichi
