Hello,

I'm looking at designing a BMS utilizing the BQ20Z655-R1 but I'm worried about the risk of obsolescence with this IC.

I considered using the BQ40z50 however it is missing a couple features that I need to keep for my application specifically the charge-enable pin and the LCD display option.

If anyone could suggest an IC with either or both of these features it'd be appreciated.

Hi Nick,

There is no risk of obsolescence for BQ20z655-R1. There is also BQ34z653. Are you able to do LCD control via an extra MCU on your board? If yes, then I recommend using the latest BQ40z50-R2 fuel gauge.

Are there any chip options outside of the BQ20z655 that has a charge-enable pin?

Hi Nick, this would be the only chip with the charge enable pin. Newer devices achieve this functionality via the PRES/ pin but this will kill both charge and discharge FETs and not just charge FET.
